American Negro Playwright Theatre is having Company Auditions

The American Negro Playwright Theatre is proud to announce its Company Auditions for upcoming productions. We will be casting principal and understudy roles for the following productions:

ANPT Company Auditions, Thursday and Friday, September 30th & October 1st, 6:30-9:00 PM, Next Level-Arts & Entertainment Mindset, 1008 Charlotte Avenue, Nashville 37203, (615) 942-3929

Please see below for more information about the productions for which we will be casting.
"The Dance on Widow's Row." After a one-year run, Samm-Art Williams' comedic play is still here at The Next Level. The play depicts four wealthy widows in Nashville who invite the area's most eligible bachelors to an intimate soiree. Having already buried nine husbands altogether, they know that neighbors' tongues will wag like the tail of a starving dog with the key to the butcher shop; but they are willing to endure vicious gossip if there is a chance that they will meet "Mr. Right" tonight. "The Dance on Widow's Row" is a light comedy about death, dating and superstition - - or, more specifically, about how hard it can be for a woman to get a date after she's buried a few husbands.
"2 Black TV" is a sketch comedy television series, which originatied out of a Nashville College Theatre production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). Cast members from that play formed a support group and named it "Friends of Theatre". It is out of the Friends of Theatre group that 2 Black TV was born. The series srtives to produce comedy with a strong emphasis on Black subject matter. Too black...or not too black...? Black is the question.
"Improvisation Workshop" is a challenging and interactive workshop designed to get your creative juices flowing. Examine, identify, and improve those skills that will aid in taking your talents to the next level.
"Zooman and the Sign" is about the impact of inner city violence. Because of the growing concern over gang activity in Nashville the staging of the play creates a powerful way to exemplify the importance of art in the community. The play exemplifies social, human and personal significance through the characters, situations, and the community.
"Miracle in Rwanda" is a one-woman show exploring the real-life traumatic experience of Immaculee Ilibagiza, survivor of the Rwandan genocide, who took silent refuge in a cramped, hidden bathroom with seven other women in order to escape slaughter. A story of courage, strength, faith, and forgiveness.
"American Menu" takes audiences back to May 1968, shortly after the murder of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. and a month before the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy. Five Black kitchen workers at a segregated lunch counter are forced to engage in painful self-examination brought about by yet another senseless death in their town. Through passionate conversations, these women face the realities of life on the cusp of change. Jammed in a hot, airless room they must battle prejudice, poverty, ignorance and each other as they search for inspiration. Yet in the midst of this seemingly endless time, they manage to find humor that helps bridge the gaps and reconnects them to their sense of humanity.
